115 (858) Black-headed Trogon, Trogon melanocephalus)

On 23 February, we met a bird near the entrance to Palenque (Pre-Hispanic City and National Park of Palenque, Chiapas).

116 (859) Gartered Trogon Trogon caligatus sallaei)

Synonyms: Northern Violaceous Trogon, Trogon violaceus braccatus, Trogon violaceus caligatus, Trogon violaceus sallaei.

T. c. sallaei Bonaparte, 1856, formerly of uncertain identity, has precedence over T. c. braccatus (Cabanis & Heine, 1863). H&M 4: 281, Browning et al 1991.

On February 22nd, several birds (male and female) were spotted at the ruins in Calakmul (Calakmul Biosphere Reserve). The male flew into a termite mound hanging on a tree and tore off pieces from it.
On February 24, we met in Yaxchilan (Chiapas).

On February 24, one bird in Yaxchilan (Chiapas).

118 (861) Yellow-eyed trogon (Citreoline Trogon, Trogon citreolus sumichrasti)

Synonym: Gray-headed Trogon.

On 2 March, the male met near the Canal Principal (Oaxaca).
3 March several meetings in Huatulco (National Park Huatulco, Oaxaca).

On February 27, we met one bird on the mountain in the Orquideas Moxviquil OM botanical garden in San Cristobal (San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas).

Dwarf green kingfisher (American Pygmy-kingfisher, Chloroceryle aenea stictoptera)

Felipe Carrillo Puerto (Quintana Roo) was seen 5 km east of Felipe Carrillo Puerto on 21 February.
I did not see.

Amazon Kingfisher (Amazon Kingfisher, Chloroceryle amazona)

Synonym: Amazonian Green Kingfisher.

On February 24, we met in the morning along the banks of the Usumasinta River on the way to Yaxchilan, Chiapas.

Synonym: Red-breasted Pied Kingfisher.

On February 21, we met one bird (female) near a reservoir on the way to Xpujil, Campeche.

Synonym: Belted Pied Kingfisher.

On 19 February they met occasionally at Parque Natural Ria Lagartos (Ria Lagartos, Yucatan).

On February 26, we met one bird near the ruins in Tenam Puente (Chiapas).
On February 28, we met one bird on the way to the summit of Sumidero Canyon (Canon del Sumidero National Park, Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas).

Sighted at Calakmul Biosphere Reserve on 22 February. I did not see.

Synonym: Brown Momot.

February 20, one bird on the road 10 km from Calotmul, Yucatan, one bird in Chichen Itza, Yucatan.

On February 24, one bird was seen in the morning at the pier in Yaxchilan (Chiapas).

On February 21, we met a group of birds on the road 5 km east of the city of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo.
On February 24, several birds were observed in Yaxchilan (Chiapas), the bird flew up to the hollow and fed another bird.

Synonym: Rainbow-billed Toucan.

February 21 were common on the road 5 km east of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo.

Synonym: Ant melanerpes.

On March 5, we met in a pine-oak forest in the mountains of the South Sierra Madre (La Neveria, Sierra Madre del Sur, Oaxaca).

Synonym: Centurus pucherani, Black-cheeked melanerpes

On February 24, they were often seen in Yaxchilan (Chiapas).

Synonym: Gold-cheeked melanerpes.

On March 2, we met near the Canal Principal (Oaxaca).
On March 3, we met in Huatulco (National Park Huatulco, Oaxaca).

Synonyms: Gray-throated melanerpes, Centurus hypopolius.

On March 5, a couple of birds were seen on prickly pear among fields in the Sierra Madre del Sur, Oaxaca.

Synonym: Yucatan melanerpes.

On 19 February, met in trees along the road near Parque Natural Ria Lagartos (Ria Lagartos, Yucatan).

132 (874) (Velasquez's Woodpecker, Melanerpes santacruzi )

A Melanerpes santacruzidubius

Synonyms: Centurus aurifrons dubius, Melanerpes aurifrons dubius, Golden-fronted Woodpecker, Golden-fronted melanerpe, Golden-fronted woodpecker.

Velasquez's Woodpecker is split from the Golden-fronted Woodpecker, includes all ssp except M.a.aurifrons (Garcia-Trejo et al 2009), cf NACC 2013-A-12.

Seen in the forest south of Cancun (Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo) on 18 February.
On February 19, we met in the forest by the road next to Parque Natural Ria Lagartos (Ria Lagartos, Yucatan).
On February 22, one bird at a closed gate at the entrance to Calakmul Biosphere Reserve.

B Melanerpes santacruzi polygrammus

1 March, one male on a tree on the outskirts of a lagoon village near Arista (Chiapas).

IN Melanerpes santacruzi grateloupensis

7 March observed in trees (Atlantic slope of the Sierra Madre East, Tuxtepec, Oaxaca).

Synonym: Yellow-bellied sucking woodpecker.

On February 27, we met on the mountain in the Orquideas Moxviquil OM botanical garden in San Cristobal (San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas).
On 7 March observed in the evening near Valle Nacional (San Juan Bautista Valle Nacional, Tuxtepec, Oaxaca).

134 Ruby-horned woodpecker (Golden-olive Woodpecker, Colaptes rubiginosus yucatanensis)

Synonym: Golden-green striped-bellied woodpecker, Piculus rubiginosus yucatanensis.

Woodpeckers were seen in Montebello (Lagunas de Montebello National Park, Chiapas) on February 25. Poor quality photo.
On 7 March observed in the evening near the Valle Nacional (San Juan Bautista Valle Nacional, Tuxtepec, Oaxaca).

On March 4, we met one bird in the mountains of the South Sierra Madre (Sierra Madre del Sur, Oaxaca).

A Golden Woodpecker (Northern Flicker, Colaptes auratus)

Marked in the lists of colleagues. I did not see.

B Guatemalan woodpecker (Colaptes auratus mexicanoides )

Synonym: Golden awl-billed woodpecker.

Woodpeckers were seen in Montebello (Lagunas de Montebello National Park, Chiapas) on February 25.

Synonym: Chestnut Celeus.

Seen in Palenque (Pre-Hispanic City and National Park of Palenque, Chiapas) on 23 February.

Synonym: Light-bellied phleoceastes, Phloeoceastes guatemalensis.

On the evening of February 20, one bird was seen on a track 3 km east of the city of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo.
On 24 February, one male was seen in Yaxchilan (Chiapas).

On 19 February, several birds take a boat trip to Rio Lagartos (Parque Natural Ria Lagartos, Ria Lagartos, Yucatan).

On 3 March, one bird was seen in a tree in the evening near the golf club in Huatulco (National Park Huatulco, Oaxaca).

On the 1st of March we saw a Kestrel on the way (Chiapas) for the first time
Thereafter, the birds were seen daily. Without photo.

On 19 February, one bird in a tree far from the path next to Parque Natural Ria Lagartos (Ria Lagartos, Yucatan).

142 (881) Bat Falcon, Falco rufigularis petoensis)

On February 22, a pair of birds at sunrise at a closed barrier at the entrance to Calakmul Biosphere Reserve. Mating was observed, one bird caught its prey and carried it in its talons.

143 (882) Olive-throated Parakeet Eupsittula nana astec)

Formerly Jamaican Parakeet (Olive-throated Parakeet, Aratinga nana astec).

Revisie traditional Aratinga into 4 genera following Remsen et al (2013), sequence provisional pending revised classification of Psittacidae.
Separation of Eupsittula spp from Aratinga follows Remsen et al (2013).

Change English name to Olive-throated Parakeet per AOU, pending formal split of Aztec Parakeet.

Synonyms: Aztec Parakeet, Aratinga astec, Aratinga nana astec.

On February 19, groups of parrots met on the road near Parque Natural Ria Lagartos (Ria Lagartos, Yucatan).

AND Eupsittula canicularis canicularis

Synonym: Aratinga canicularis canicularis.

March 1, a pair of parrots in the trees near Arista (Chiapas).

B Eupsittula canicularis eburnirostrum

Synonym: Aratinga canicularis eburnirostrum.

It differs from the nominal subspecies in the presence of dark spots on the lower mandible.

Parrots were seen in trees near Canal Principal (Oaxaca) on 2 March.

Green Parakeet (Pacific Parakeet, Psittacara strenuus)

Synonym: Nicaraguan oratinga, Aratinga strenua, Aratinga holochlora strenua.

I saw parrots in the city of Juchitan de Zaragoza (Oaxaca) in the afternoon on March 1. Parrots sat on wires in the city square.

145 (884) Kalita (Monk Parakeet, Myiopsitta monachus)

On March 9, one couple on a tree near a parking lot in the Mexico City Eco Park (Parque Ecologico Xochimilco, Mexico D.F.). The birds sat near a huge nest, then one bird climbed into the nest.

Synonym: White-headed red-nosed parrot.

Sighted in Yaxchilan (Chiapas) on 24 February. Without photo.
On 7 March observed in the evening near the Valle Nacional (San Juan Bautista Valle Nacional, Tuxtepec, Oaxaca).

Synonym: Lesser White-fronted Amazon.

On February 22, one bird at a closed gate at the entrance to Calakmul Biosphere Reserve.
February 23 in the morning in Palenque (Pre-Hispanic City and National Park of Palenque, Chiapas).

B Amazona albifrons albifrons

Parrots were seen in trees near Canal Principal (Oaxaca) on 2 March.
We met several times in Huatulco (National Park Huatulco, Oaxaca) on March 3.

Synonyms: Yellow-lored Amazon, Yellow-lored Parrot.

On 19 February, groups of parrots flying by were seen walking along the road near Parque Natural Ria Lagartos (Ria Lagartos, Yucatan).
On February 20, in the evening, a pair of birds was encountered on a track 3 km east of the city of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Quintana Roo.

Synonym: Red-faced Amazon.
